Ball valves are widely used in daily life and industrial production. And they can be made of various materials, which are suitable for different working conditions. Common ball valve materials are described below.
Materials for Body
1.Carbon Steel
Carbon steel ball valves can also be used for fluid regulation and control and change the distribution of water flow. They are suitable for low-pressure, small-diameter pipelines to cut off water flow. Among them, the hard-sealed V-shaped ball valve has a strong shearing force between the V-shaped core and the metal valve seat of hard alloy surfacing, which is especially suitable for media containing fibers and tiny solid particles.
2.Cast Iron
Cast iron ball valves are mostly used in water, steam, air, oil and other media that are over normal temperature. Iron is low cost, high availability and impact resistance, but its corrosion resistance is poor.
3.Stainless Steel
The Ss ball valve is common for ball valves manufacturing. It has great durability and corrosion resistance. This material is used in a wide number of systems, including general plant and geochemical systems.
4.Bronze and Brass
Brass is similar to bronze in its machinability. However, brass is cheaper than bronze. While brass is a material comprised of both copper and zinc. It is an ideal material for valves used in low or medium pressure systems, and is good for more complex castings. And bronze is an alloy that contains copper, zinc, tin, and lead, which can also against corrosion and wear.
5.Plastic
Plastic ball valves choose plastic as raw materials. It is suitable for the closure of the conveying process with corrosive medium, and the temperature is -14℃~100℃, -40℃~140℃ according to different materials. The common plastic material is polyvinyl chloride, also known as PVC. It has good flexibility and a smooth surface. In addition to CPVC, what sets CPVC apart from PVC is that chlorinated PVC is able to withstand higher temperatures. In addition, plastic costs less than metal.
Common Materials of Seals, Gaskets and Packing
1.Polyurethane
This durable material is suited for temperatures up to 200 F, pressures up to 6,000 psi, and offers excellent abrasion resistance.
2.Viton
Viton provides excellent chemical resistance and fares well in high-temperature applications. |
3.PTFE
An extremely low friction material that can function well over a wide range of pressures and temperatures.
4.PEEK
Polyetherketone is well-suited for steam applications. And it has good resistance of corrosion and high temperature., it offers higher temperature ratings.
